The People of CastAlum

In the first of our employee interview series, hear from our Training & Development Manager, Dave Onslow, who has been working at the foundry for 17 years!

Dave Onslow is one of CastAlum’s longest serving employees, and in this interview, he shares how he has been able to progress through the company during his seventeen years of service. Plus, a few pointers for anyone looking to get started with a career in engineering!

“During my time here at CastAlum I’ve held the positions of CNC Operator, Die Casting Technician, Die Casting Trainer, Die Change Technician, Lead Technician, Shift Manager, and now Training & Development Manager.

I am currently working on all aspects of our latest recruitment drive which includes working closely with our die casting mentors who are training our new recruits, and working with the recruitment team conducting both internal and external interviews and assessments as we are looking to fill roles in almost all departments.

My favourite part of working at CastAlum is seeing the opportunity for development, progression, and personal growth at CastAlum. Like me, most of my managerial colleagues have grown with the company over its 20 years of being in business.

My advice to anyone thinking about a career in engineering is that if you have the interest, don’t hesitate! It’s wonderful to see how our apprentices over the years progress and develop into talented and valued team members in whichever engineering department or speciality they choose.”
